Treasurer Charles Perkins is a student at Laney College in Oakland. He is currently majoring in socio-economics and is planning to attend Howard University in the Fall.
He is serving in his second year as Treasurer and also serves as the Advertising Manager for the Harambee Newspaper.
"I want be a part of the solution towards creating economically sustainable communities in low income neighborhoods," said Perkins. Perkins is no stranger to leadership.
He previously served in the U.S. Marines and did a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
He also serves on the local Board for the Black Men and Boy's Initative (BMBI) 2025. He has also worked as a mentor at The Mentoring Center in Oakland as well as a counselor at Leadership Excellence's Camp Akili, a leadership camp for African American youth.
"I am a strong black man committed to uplifting the community and being apart of the Black Caucus has given me a great learning experience," said Perkins.
"Serving on the caucus has also allowed me to polish my leadership skills, build new relationships, expand my networking database and write for a recognized statewide newspaper," said Perkins, Perkins also contributes articles to Harambee and content to The Black Hour Radio Show.
