Message from the President
Black Caucus wants you
Marlene Hurd
Issue date: 12/8/08 Section: Opinion
Are you a student who wants to be a world changer? A history maker? See changes take place on your campuses and communities?
Polish your leadership skills? Build new relationships with local and state governments? Work with Congressional leaders in Washington D.C.?
Expand your networking database? Run for a campus or statewide leadership position?
Improve your academics? Write for a recognized statewide newspaper? Use you God-given talents to help students?
The Black Caucus wants you.
Students can take that first step towards change by registering for our 11th Annual Leadership Conference being held February 13-14, 2009 at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, CA.
Our organization exists because of you. As a student you will embark upon a life changing leadership experience. The Black Caucus needs your voice at the table, as decisions are being made on your behalf, regardless.
As students, we are facing proposed budget cuts. Many campuses in the state have been affected by delayed financial aid checks. Essential categorical programs are on the chopping block. College textbooks prices continue to skyrocket. The cost of obtaining an education is becoming a greater barrier.
We must now fight for our education. How? Getting involved with the Black Caucus of the California Student Association Community Colleges (CalSACC).
You can also get involved on your respective campuses. Get connected with their local student governments. Write a letter to your campus newspaper.
Students can start letter writing campaigns contacting your local elected officials. Organize a protest rally. ACT NOW!
Join the Black Caucus.
As students, this is your transitional moment for change. Be apart of the grassroots movement. Don't miss this moment.
Have your name written in our history books.
Thank you for your continued support and leadership. You are appreciated.
