The resolution sponsored by the Black Caucus of CalSACC relating to the Umoja Community was passed 43-23 at the Fall 2008 General Assembly of the Student Senate held in San Jose in November.

The resolution encourages the Student Senate to work with the Umoja Community, the Black Caucus, and other groups in order to assist with raising awareness of Umoja, as well as the implementation of the program on the campus.

There are currently over a dozen programs throughout the state which focus on the success of students, utilizing pegagody specific to African American students. The resolution also suggests the use of Basic Skills Funding for the Umoja Community.

Black Caucus President Marlene C. Hurd expressed tears of joy following the passing.

"It's time for students to support Umoja," she said.
