Sandre Swanson to chair Legislative Black Caucus
Former Laney student body President only African American representative outside of L.A.

California State Assembly Member Sandré Swanson (D-Alameda) assumed leadership of the California Legislative Black Caucus this month, becoming the first Northern California representative in over a decade to assume the chairmanship.
Swanson continues as Chair of the Assembly Labor and Employment Committee, and member of the Budget Committee, including the sub-committees on Education Finance.
"I am honored that my colleagues have entrusted me with this incredible responsibility," said Swanson.
The former Laney student body President (1970) was a keynote speaker at the Black Caucus of CalSACC's 2007 Annual Leadership Conference. He previously served as Chief of Staff to Congresswoman Barbara Lee.
