Crammed like sardines in the bottom of slaveships
Introduced as property in america, a life full of hardships

Building of the plantation,
Harvesting cotton and crops that fed this nation

Slave and free alike
Built the presidents house - both of which were white
Now we talk about - the recent unbelievable sight

Our constitution said Black Men were worth 3 out of 5
Number of Blacks that built the white house that were slaves - about 3 out of 5

Do you think Tom, Daniel, Peter, Harry or Ben
Ever fathomed the resident named president would look like them?

Ironic how the statue of freedom, built by one who was not freed
We all owe to a slave by the name of Philip Reid

Amendment 15, made voting a protected thing
Dr. Martin Luther King told everyone of his dream,
then his life ended abruptly as we heard that gunshot ring...

From 1964 we add 44
And get President #44
And celebration galore
3 out of 5 - We are certainly worth more!

From Shirley Chisholm
To a hope filled vision
Many said it would never happen,
But he refused to listen

Much much much more than just 3 out of 5
We can all truly say that hope is alive!
