Secretary of State Debra Bowen expects record turn out. Many young people are excited about the possibility of Democratic Sen. Barack Obama becoming the U.S.'s first African American president. There is also excitement of Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin, running with Republican Sen. John McCain, becoming the first woman Vice-Presidential candidate.
While virtually invisible in the corporate media, there is also underground enthusiasm--particularly in the Hip Hop community--in the candidacy of former Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney running for President with the U.S. Green Party. Her running mate is journalist and activist Rosa Clemente.
"Considering the history of African people in this country- and all the efforts in the past and not so far off past to prevent us from voting-we must exercise our citizenship to it's fullest," said Harambee Managing Editor Reginald James. "Regardless who or what you vote for, you must vote!"
The election is also historic because it is the first time since 1928 that an incumbent is not on the ballot.
