In the spirit of Umoja (unity) and Nia (purpose), the Black Caucus Executive Board brought over 60 students together at the CCCSAA Conference held October 20, 2007 at the Sacramento Doubletree Hotel to empower themselves and others.
The workshop entitled, "Harambee: Unifying students for Community Upliftment," gave students an opportunity to explore the challenges faced by student leaders on campus and identify possible solutions.
Participants were first put into groups with students from other campus and were asked, "What challenges and issues do you experience on your campus as a student leader?"
After sharing their challenges within their groups and presenting findings, participants realized they had similar issues on their respective campuses. The most common issues were then assigned to the different groups and they came up with solutions amongst themselves to overcome common challenges.
